How is Invisalign treatment different from braces?
Traditional braces use a combination of brackets, archwires, and O-rings (small rubber bands) to place mild pressure on your teeth and jaw. Invisalign works similarly, but it uses removable plastic aligners instead.
Invisalign aligners hug your teeth like a mouthguard. You wear them 20-22 hours a day, only taking them out to brush, floss, or eat.
How long does orthodontic treatment with Invisalign take?
I have crowded teeth. Can I benefit from Invisalign?
The Las Positas Family Dental team uses Invisalign to treat various alignment problems, including:
Crooked teeth
Gaps between the teeth
Overlapping teeth
Misaligned jaws
Crowded teeth
You might be a candidate for Invisalign if you have a bite abnormality, such as crossbite, overbite, or underbite.
Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign often takes 12-18 months*, but it varies depending on the alignment issues treated and how well you follow instructions.
Attend each of your regularly scheduled checkups, wear your aligners as prescribed, and follow your provider’s instructions.
What’s the Invisalign treatment process?
Your Los Positas Family Dental provider reviews your dental records, completes an oral exam, and takes a series of digital X-rays. You need healthy teeth and gums to undergo treatment. If your dentist discovers cavities or gum disease, they address those issues first.
If the team determines you can benefit from treatment, they take intraoral scans and upload them to a computer program. Your provider develops a specialized treatment plan, charting the precise movements of your teeth and jaw.
Afterward, your provider sends the scans to an Invisalign laboratory. The lab uses your scans to manufacture a series of custom Invisalign aligners.
During treatment, you visit Las Positas Family Dental every few weeks. You get a new pair of Invisalign aligners at each visit that delivers slightly different pressure on your teeth. Over time, your teeth and jaw move into the optimal position, transforming your smile and encouraging good oral health.
Do I need to keep my Invisalign aligners clean?
Yes. Take your aligners out at least twice a day and rinse them off in cool tap water. Before going to bed, brush your aligners with a soft-bristle toothbrush to prevent food particles and bacteria from collecting.
