I don’t care about my smile. Why should I care about restorative dentistry?
Having broken, missing, or decaying teeth isn’t just a cosmetic concern. Without treatment, these issues increase the risk of more serious problems, such as gum recession, bone loss, and teeth moving out of place.
Dental restorations help preserve your smile. They restore your biting and chewing abilities, so you can live your life confidently.
What services does restorative dentistry provide?
The Las Positas Family Dental team offers various restorative dentistry services, including:
Tooth-colored fillings
When harmful bacteria eat away at your tooth enamel, it results in a cavity. Tooth-colored fillings use composite resin to fill the hole and prevent more damage.
Same-day crowns
If you have a broken tooth or a tooth with a severe cavity, the team might recommend a same-day CEREC® crown. A CEREC crown is a porcelain cap bonded over a damaged or decaying tooth. The team makes your crown in-office during a quick 90-minute visit.
Bridges
A dental bridge is a restoration that “bridges” a gap where a permanent tooth used to be.
Bridges have a false tooth (pontic) and two crowns. The pontic fills the empty socket, and your dentist bonds the crowns to the abutment teeth on either side.
Inlays/onlays
Inlays and onlays are similar to crowns in that they are “indirect” fillings.
Inlays repair damaged enamel on top of a tooth, between the ridges or cusps. In contrast, onlays cover the entire chewing surface of a tooth and some of the side.
Dentures
Dentures can restore your smile if you’ve lost most or all of your teeth due to trauma, extractions, or poor oral hygiene. Dentures are removable appliances that replace some or all of your teeth and the supporting tissues. The Las Positas Family Dental team offers partial, complete, and implant-supported dentures.
Dental implants
Dental implants provide a sturdier and longer-lasting alternative to dentures. They’re titanium posts your dentist inserts in your empty tooth sockets, providing a base for crowns, fixed bridges, or implant-supported dentures.
